After a long absence since the first generation, the king-size value-for-money iPhone is back with the latest chipset.
Back in 2016, Apple launched the iPhone SE. In essence, it was the body of an iPhone 5S with the chipset and camera lifted from the iPhone 6 and a price tag of $399. With such an irresistible price tag, the SE would temporarily become the best-selling iPhone and even outclassed the bigger and more powerful flagship models. Sadly, Apple killed off the SE in 2018 of which most tech reviewers viewed as the biggest mistake Apple had ever done. Apple has definitely realized this mistake and finally made a redemption with the brand new second-generation SE.
The new SE (2020) is meant to follow the footstep of the original model, and it seems that Apple has nailed it by keeping the same $399 price tag as before. Just like the original SE, the new one follows the same formula of putting a new heart inside an old body.
The body was borrowed from the iPhone 8 with the same 4.7" Retina IPS LCD screen panel and 720p+ screen resolution. If you never fancy the FaceID facial recognition system, you would be delighted to know that the TouchID fingerprint scanning system is left untouched. It even has an IP67 rating, something that the original SE doesn't have. Unfortunately, you wouldn't find any 3.5mm audio jack in the new SE.
What is different from the 8 is under the skin. It now houses 3GB RAM the same A13 Bionic chipset that was found in all iPhone 11 models. While the 12MP f/1.8 camera remains unchanged, it now benefits from the new chipset with the latest Smart HDR and Portrait Mode algorithms. No words about the Deep Fusion feature at the time of this writing. While the battery capacity remains unchanged at 1,821 mAh, the wired fast charging is now rated at 18W. There is also an inclusion of eSIM alongside a physical nano-SIM card tray, so you can enjoy any telco services that support the eSIM system.

As mentioned earlier, the new SE (2020) will start at $399 for the base 64GB internal storage. There is also a 128GB and 256GB internal storage upgrade that will cost $449 and $499 respectively. Three colours will be available - Black, White and PRODUCT(RED). Every purchase with PRODUCT(RED) colour will be contributed directly to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Pre-order begins on April 17th, 2020 with worldwide availability starting on April 24th, 2020.
